What is Leadership?

Daily writing prompt
Do you see yourself as a leader?

I would certainly say that I see myself as a leader though in an unconventional way. I don’t lead through force, rather I do my best to guide others toward their truest potential. If I believe a colleague is over-extending themselves, I’ll give my best to support them and try to be a place of rest should they need it. When a friend needs a little push of motivation, I’ll give my best shot at being a motivational speaker. If all they need is for someone be silent and listen, I’m ready, still as a rock in a quiet lake. I always give the best I can muster to the people under my care. I may not always be perfect, but I’ll fight through heaven and hell to save and protect those under my charge, even when it’s in their best interests to walk away.

It’s the mark of a true leader to know when to walk away. If I’ve learned anything over the last three years, that might be the most important thing. Knowing when to let things die, especially when it hurts is sometimes the best way to lead. I needed someone else to teach me that lesson, but I know better than to hold onto dead flowers now. Next time, I lead something, I’ll pour my heart and soul into it with such fiery passion, the world will be awestruck by the radiance of my team.
