Daily writing prompt
What would your life be like without music?

Without music, my life would lose a lot of what grounds me mentally. Music is my ultimate lifeline, allowing a sense of expression and identity that I might not have found in a world where it remained absent. I personally have a very diverse range of songs that I listen to ranging from high-intensity, scrappy heavy metal to soft, ethereal instrumentals. You will often find me listening to something while I do other activities, and it feels unnatural to have moments without music. I’d even consider birds chirping to be its own form of music.

I find that music has been a home to me when I felt I had nowhere else to go. When the night gets long and the days get hard, I know that I can find a song to either help me express the anger and frustration I’m feeling or a song to help soothe my worries and fears. In the end, music for me is a tool for my own emotional maintenance, one so vital that when I don’t have music playing, I subconsciously hum the tune of a song that comes to mind. Music is one of the deepest ways that humanity has learned to connect and communicate with one another even halfway across the world.

Without my lifeline, I’d probably have become much less expressive. My life would be dull, lacking some of the color that music brings to the table. I might not have bonded so deeply with poetry as the first poems I wrote were often meant to be songs. So many things would have changed about my life to the point that I would not be the person I am today. Yet despite all these theoretical ideas, I am proud to live a life where I can experience the color that music brings to the world. I don’t know where I’d be without it.
