Childlike Wonder

Daily writing prompt
What does it mean to be a kid at heart?

This question is one of my favorites to think about because it helps open my mind to solutions for when life gets dull. Being a kid at heart means opening yourself up to the chaotic nature of the world. Not in a way that allows all of the tragedy we see on the news to consume the happiness and joy in the heart but in a way that lets us face whatever happens in the moment with wonder. Yet this is not the modernized wonder that has been sterilized of the sublime and supernatural. Children have a view that anything is possible because the potential of the world is limitless. To be a kid at heart is to nurture a place for such imagination to flow forth in the mind of the adult. For adolescence and adulthood are the places where this innate wonder may find its final resting place without conscious effort to retain this elixir of life. Wonder retains the youth of the soul, revitalizing weary limbs and aching bones with renewed vigor.
