Paleozoic Memories

If my memory serves me correctly, I wanted to be a Paleontologist when I was five years old. My parents had recently introduced me to dinosaurs, and we found a big encyclopedia on the Cretaceous period that catalogued a large number of dinosaurs that were discovered before 2009. The encyclopedia became my favorite book for a couple of years until I lost it at some point when we moved out of my old house. I remember watching lots of dinosaur documentaries from that point on, marveling at the scientists at work excavating the fossils from different dig sites around the world. If I could have started searching for dinosaurs at the ripe age of five years old, I would have, but alas, it was not possible.

Even in modern day, I still like dinosaurs. I met a friend at work the other day who is studying to become a Paleontologist, which was not on my bingo card. I read about new dinosaur discoveries in passing, but the cosmos has truly ripped my attention away from the dinosaurs. However, to an alien species looking at Earth from beyond 66 million years ago, the dinosaurs would still be roaming the Earth, standing as the ruling species and dominating the ecosystems around the world.
