Longing

Long-lived was the distant sun kissed sky

Nothing could compare to when I was there

Your presence a warm blanket over my soul

Yet fires consume all they touch with impunity

Grateful should I be for the touch of life

That electric shock tracing the skin

As delectable as sin, a fervent

Hunger running rampant, a

Primeval tether that bound

Us once, but now only

Binds me.

I wish I could say I didn’t regret

All the time I spent fighting

This brain racing like a bullet train

For the faintest of affection.

Attraction is a fickle thing,

Dying when the heart’s fall leaves drop

And confidence shatters into glass.

I suppose it’s true what they say,

Grass is greener on the other side.

At least it was for you…
