Midnight

We carved ourselves a niche in the dark

How I missed your nocturnal charms

Vigilance shrieked its endless mark

Yet the abyss reached with her arms

Though cold her grasp was full of life

In an instant, swept away was that strife

Child of the night am I

Her umbral majesty taught us wonder

Long ago we gazed upon the sky

Now lanterns and carriages tear her asunder

Love a shallow image doth this soul

One day, the dark and I will be whole
