A Twist of Mayhem

Daily writing prompt
Is a little chaos actually good for us?

I dare say that some chaos is good for us. I’ve got two main reasons for why I believe this to be true.

First, if we take a world of stability to its extreme, we’d be bored because nothing would change. To a lesser degree, when things are too consistent, we as human beings get bored or at least some of us do. I know in my case, I tend to need a lot of stimulation in my activities. It really comes through in my writing. I feel I write my high intensity scenes have the best writing because my brain engages more with them. When the world around me gets too bored, I find something else to do.

Second, I’d argue that life is chaos given sentience. Our free will itself is a form of chaos that we exert upon the world. Storms take shape from the chaotic energy of heat, water, and air currents. The most beautiful things of our universe form from the explosive and chaotic death of stars. We ourselves are stardust, so we are creatures of chaos.

But that’s just my opinion. Some might argue that chaos is the source of our pain in life. However, I’d say that just like everything in life, a little chaos is good for us in moderation…
