Echoes

Footsteps creak in the floorboards
Running rent-free 'round these halls
Black irises growing in the garden
Too bad you're not here to see them
Koi swimming amidst the blood roses
How thee hath swarmed our thoughts
Despite the sounds, you're never there
Though your presence has been felt
Alongside traces and trails
In parking lots and passing glances
Thou art cruel for haunting us so
When thou stole our grace

The fireplace still burns in this heart
Though not for you, oh dear
Unfortunately, thou still hath a place here
Fore our thoughts cling to thee
This sentimental heart holds on
To the painting with your touch
Alongside the notebook too
Suppose we need an exorcist
Or perhaps a fresh setting
Where your echoes don't remain
